Efficacy and safety of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in octogenrian

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholan-giopancreatography(ERCP) in octogenrian, Methods Complete preparation should be carried out before procedure. The circulative and respiratory diseases should be treated effectively. The treatment was determined according to pa-tient's condition after ERCP. Results Therapeutic ERCP were done in 49/53 (92.45%), 36 common bile duct stones patients underwent endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST). 42 endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD) were done. Stents were used in 7 cancer patients. Complications were observed in 9.43% (5/53) of therapeutic ERCP but no severe complications and death occured. Conclusion Therapeutic ERCP is safe and effective for the treatment of pancreatobiliary diseases in octogenrian.
