Effect of psychological behavior Intervention combined with gastreprokinetic drugs for patients with functional constipation

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of the psychological behavior intervention on the mental status and clinical symptom of functional constipation. Methods Forty-two patients with functional constipation diagnosed by Rome Ⅱ diagnostic code were treated with psychological behavior intervention and gastroprokinetic drugs for6 weeks. The Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), self-rating depressive scale (SDS) and health status questionnaire SF-36 were analyzed on mental status, and the improving of clinical symptom before and after the treatment. Results The scores of SAS and SDS after the treatment notably decreased [SAS:(31.25±9.61, 40.71±8.24),P<0.01 ; SDS: (41.28±7.52,46.83±8.11),P<0.01].The degrade of each component scores of the SF-36 questionnaire after than before the treatment was significant (P<0.01, P < 0.05 ). The recovery rate of patients with functional constipation was 76.19% (32/42). Conclusion Psychological behavior intervention combined with gastroprokinetic drugs can help patients with functional constipation improve mental status and quality of life, with relieved constipation symptoms.
