Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics of melanosia coli(MC) and the correlation between MC and colorectal polypus. Methods One hundred and fifty-six MC patients diagnosed with colonescopy were retrospectively analyzed. Results The detection rate of MC in male patients was 0.46%, less than that of female patients(0.66%). The men's mean age was 65.53±13.08, older than women's(53.73±13.50). The detection rate of MC decreased from 2001 to 2007. 80% patients had constipation and history of laxatives use. 83. 98% MC was involved in the whole large intestine. There was no significant difference between the male and the female. The detection rate of MC patients with colorectal polypus was 27.56%, showing no significant difference from that of colorectal polypus in patients with colonoscopy. MC with colorectal polypus was related to age by binary Logistic regression analysis. Conclusion Most of MC is involved in the whole large intestine. Female MC patients are younger than male and show a higher morbidity.
