Treatment of clavicle fractures with shape memory alloy embracing flxator

Abstract：Objective To explore the clinical results and the surgical indications of shape memory alloy embracing fixator for clavicle fractures. Methods Thirty-five clavicle fractures were treated with the shape memory alloy embracing fixator from June 2004 to September 2008. Among them, 32 cases were clavicular midpiece fractures and other 3 cases were fractures on the lateral one third of clavicle. Results Thirty-two patients finished follow-up with satisfied bone healing. The healing duration was about 6 ～ 12 weeks. According to the Zhuang Qi-chang Scoring Criteria of clavicle fractures, 29 cases were excellent, 2 cases were good, 1 case was fair and no poor case was found. The excellent rate was 96. 8%. Conclusion The treatment of clavicle fractures with shape memory alloy embracing fixator has the features of secure fixation and simple manipulation. This method is especially suitable for the treatment of clavicular midpiece fractures.
