Spiral CT for diagnosis of labyrinthitis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the spiral CT methods and the high resoution CT (HRCT)findings of labyrinthitis. Methods The HRCT of 17 cases (19 ears) with labyrinthitis were studied. Results In the 19 ears which underwent HRCT examinations, 5 ears showed increase of the density of one or more structures of inner ear and 7 ears showed increase of the density of structures as well as change of the shape of the inner ear. 1 ear showed change of the shape only. Labyrinth inner cavity showed local or total sclerosis and disappearance in 6 ears. Among the 19 ears, there was bony incompleteness in 2 besides the changes mentioned above. Conclusion HRCT can demonstrate the abnormal changes of bony labyrinth. It has important value of detection and diagnosis of labyrinthitis.
