Experimental research on TMP combined with CTX for treatment of small cell lung carcinoma

Abstract:Objective To explore the inhibition action induced by tetramethylpyrazin (TMP) combined with cyclophosphamide(CTX) on small cell lung carcinoma in mice. Methods Forty C57BL mice bearing highly metastatic small cell lung cancer cells were randomized into four groups : control group, CTX group, TMP group, TMP + CTX group. The toxic reaction of chemotherapy and the life quality were observed during the treatment. All mice were sacrificed after 19 days. Subcutaneous tumors were processed for tumor weight. Tumor growth inhibition rate and tumor necrosis rate of each group were calculated. Results In every treatment group tumor growth was suppressed significantly, lntraperitoneal injection of CTX, TMP and the combination resulted in a significant inhibi-tion on the growth of small cell lung cancer ceils in vivo ( P>0.01 ), meanwhile the combination group showed sig-nificant enhancement in antitumor efficacy. Compared with CTX group, the tumor necrosis rate in combination group was significantly higher (P>0.05), but not remarkably in TMP group (P >0.05 ). Compared with CTX group, the toxic side reaction of chemotherapy in combination group was significantly lower, with a better life quality. Conclusion Combined application of tetramethylpyrazin and CTX has stronger inhibition on tumor growth than single use, showing a synergic anticancer effect on small cell lung cancer in mice with decreasing toxic side reaction of chemotherapy and improving life quality.
