Relationship between depression and coping modes in patients with chronic prostatitis

Abstract:Objective To assess the incidence of depression in patients with chronic prostatitis and to discuss the relationship between depression and coping modes. Methods Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and self designed general questionnaire were sent to 116 patients with chronic prostatitis. Results The incidence of depression in patients with chronic prostatitis was 46.49%. The coping mode score of resignation was significantly higher in patients with education level above senior middle school than those with under junior middle school (P < 0.01). The patients with no medical insurance had higher depression score and more avoidance coping mode than those with medical insurance (P < 0.01). Depression was significantly related to avoidance and resignation coping modes (r = 0. 381,0. 512, P < 0.01). Conclusion Patients with chronic prostatitis often have depression which is associated with coping modes.
