Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of the single or combined therapy of ot-lipoie acid (ALA) and meeobalamin on diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Methods A total of 109 DPN cases were randomized into 3 groups. They were given the drug of ALA (ALA group, n =36), or meeobalamin (mecobalamin group, n =34), or combination therapy (combination group, n = 39). Education on diabetes, the attention of diets and the control of blood glucose with oral anti-hyperglycemic drug with or without insulin were performed simultaneously in the 3 groups. Results Improvement of DPN symptoms in combined group was significantly better than that of the single ALA group or mecobalamin group. The efficacy rate for numbness was 73.5% ,70.6% and 92.1% respectively in ALA, mecobalam and combination group after 3 weeks therapy (P < 0.05). The efficacy rate for neuralgia was 68. 8% ,72.7% and 91.9% respectively in ALA,mecobalamin and combination group after 3 weeks' therapy(P < 0.05). Conclusion The combined therapy of ALA and mecobalamin is better than each of single drug for improvement of DPN symptoms.
