Abstract:Objective To analyze the relationship between metabolic factors and left ventricular hytertrophy in hypertensive patients. Methods One hundred and sixty-two patients with essential hypertension were divided into two groups:essential hypertension with metabolic abnormality group and essential hypertension without metabolic abnomality group. 30 healthy subjects were in normal control group. 119 patients with essential hypertension received nifedipine therapy for 3 months. LVM were measured by Doppler echocardiography. NT-proBNP was detected by ELISA and In-Ca by spectroscopy. Results LVMI, NT-proBNP and In-Ca were significantly higher in essential hypertension group than those in normal control group. LVMI and In-Ca were significantly higher but NT-pmBNP was lower in essential hypertension + metabolic abnormality group. LVMI was highly related with SBP, WHR,Iog(NT-proBNP) and In-Ca. After nifedipine therapy, LVMI and In-Ca decreased. Conclusion Metabolic elements increase left ventricular hypertrophy in essential hypertension by decreasing NT-proBNP and increasing In-Ca. Nife-dipine reverses LVH by decreasing In-Ca.
