Clinical effects of linezolid in treatment of lower respiratory tract infection in elderly patients

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the clinical effect and safety of linezolid in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infection in elderly patients. Methods Sixty-two elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections were randomly divided into therapy group (0.6 g linezolid) and control group (0.4 g norvancomycin hydrochloride). Results The clinical effective rates in trial group and control group were 87.1% and 64. 5 % (P<0.05); the bacterial clearance rates were 87.9 % and 83.9 % (P>0.05), adverse reaction rates were 12.8 % and 42 % (P<0.05) respectively. Conclusion Linezolid is an effective and safe drug in treatment of lower respiratory tract infection in elderly patients.
