Open reduction and internal fixation with anatomical plate to treat intra-articular calcaneal fracture

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the efficiency of open reduction and internal fixation with anatomical plate to treat intra-articular calcaneal fractures.Methods Twenty-two feet with displaced inlra-articular fractures of the calcaneus of 18 patients were enrolled.The extension of the lateral"L"shape approach undertook open reduction and internal fixation with anatomical plate,meanwhile autologous iliac bone was grafted.During surgery,anatomic reduction of the facet of talus and calcaneus were did;Bohler angle and Gissane angle were recovered.Results Six to twenty four(average 16)months'follow up was done after surgery.Surgical outcome wag evaluated by Maryland'score:8 feet were excellent,12 feet were good,2 feet were progressive.The excellent effective rate was 91%.Conclusion Open reduction and internal fixation with anatomical plate may be a promising therapy for the treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fractures.
