Comparison of interlocking intramedullary nail and external fixator for tibial fibular fracture

Abstract:Objective To investigate different effects of interlocking intramedullary nail and external fixator for treatment of tibial fibular fractures. Methods One hundred and eight patients were treated with either interlocking intreamedullary nail or external fixator. Results The mean healing time in the external fixator group was 5 months earlier than that in the interlocking intrameduUary nail group. The complications in the external fixator group was 18.9% ,less than the interlocking intramedullary nail group(22.0%). Conclusion Both interlocking intramedullary nail and external fixator are effective for treatment of tibial fibular fractures.
