Abstract:Objective To investigate abnormal gastric myoelectrieal activity in patients with diabetic gastroparesis by electrogastrography(EGG), and to reveal the role of gastric motility disorder in the occurrence of diabetic gastroparesis. Methods Sixty-seven diabetic gastroparesis patients were examined by surface EGG in both fasting and postprandial status. The results of EGG such as the percentage of normal gastric slow wares and EGG dominant power were analyzed. Results The patients were divided into four subgroups according to the percentage of normal gastric slow wares : normal (41.8%), bradygastria (32.8%), tachygastria (7.5%) and mixed dysrhythmias (17.9%). In the normal subgroup, 10 patients (35.7%) had abnormal postprandial/fasting EGG dominant power ratio. Conclusion Gastric myoelectrical disturbance exists in 73.1% of diabetic gastroparesis patients in this study, which confirms that gastric dysmotility is one important factor in the pathogenesis of diabetic gastroparesis.
