Abstract:Objective To evaluate the relationship between plasma level of adiponectin, body mass index (BMI) and coronary artery disease in female patients. Methods One hundred and twenty-five female patients were enrolled. Coronary artery disease was determined by coronary angiography or indexed myocardial infarction. Body height and body mass were measured in the morning. BMI was calculated. Plasma level of adiponectin was also determined by ELLSA method. Results Age, BMI were higher in patients with coronary artery disease than those with non-coronary heart disease (P<0.05), and adiponectin was lower in patients with coronary artery disease than those with non-coronary heart disease (P<0.01). logistic regression analysis showed adiponectin was the independent risk factor for coronary artery disease in females. Conclusion There were significant differences with respect to age and BMI between female patients with coronary artery disease and non-coronary artery disease. Adiponectin(OR= 1.84) was the independent risk factor for coronary artery disease in females.
