Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between plasma adiponectin and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with Essential hypertension. Methods Plasma concentrations of adiponectin in 120 subjects (30 healthy cases and 90 patients with essential hypertension) were analyzed. Furthermore the 90 patients were divided into three groups and concentrations of adiponectin were measured. Results Concentration of adiponectin was significant lower in patients than that in healthy group. There was a negative correlation between adiponectin and the degree of carotid atherosclerosis. With decrease of adiponectin was positively related with the severity of carotid atherosclerosis. Conclusion Adiponectin played a role in the process of hypertension. It suggests that adiponectin could be an index for diagnosis of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with hypertension.
