Cyclosporine A in treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome: a report of 15 cases

Abstract:Objective To observe the efficacy of cyclosporine A (CsA) in treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS). Methods Fifteen patients with MDS were treated with CsA. The therapy lasted from 3 weeks to treatment responses were classified as complete remission (CR), partial remission (PR), hematological improvement (HI) and no response (NR). Meanwhile examination of blood counts and bone marrow were performed. Results HI was observed in 9 patients. PR was seen in 1 patient and NR in 4patients. 1patient stopped taking medicine for adverse effects. Overall effective rate was 66.7%. in aspects of platelet, neutrophil lineage and erythroid lineage, effective rates were 60.0% (9/15), 33.3% (5/15),40.0% (6/15) respectively.Conclusion CsA is an optimistic therapy for treatment of MDS.
