Suggestions and safety management of the Danjiangkou Reservoir Dam in the new era

Abstract：The Danjiangkou Reservoir plays a critical role for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and a key milestone for national water network.In the new era,management for safety of reservoir dams has entered a period of high-quality development.The upgrading of intelligence and informatization level raises new and higher requirements for the safety of engineering structures,water supply and water quality.However several challenges are encountered by dam safety management of the Danjiangkou Reservoir,such as incomplete data coverage of monitoring facilities,poor perception capabilities and difficulties in managing the drawdown zone.A comprehensive analysis was made on the current situation of dam safety management in the Danjiangkou Reservoir.Regarding issues existed in the new era,construction of"four dams"was proposed:safe dam construction with a focus on appraisal,concrete durability and application of efficient and non-destructive intelligent testing technology;smart dam construction with a focus on monitoring system and digital twin Danjiangkou;ecological dam construction with a focus on the concept of integrated protection and systematic governance of mountain,water,forest,farmland,lake,grass and sand and management and protection of the subsidence zone;humanistic dam construction that integrates hydraulic engineering with landscape,function and culture.
