Abstract:Being a special type of soil erosion in southern part of China,Benggang is regarded as a"hard bone"in control of soil erosion in this region. The process of controlling Benggang has been slow due to the difficulties to prevent, and lacking of input and technical support. There is an urgent need to accelerate the speed of prevention.Focusing on"where and how to prevent"and"where and how to control",discussions are made on measures based on susceptibility and risk assessments. On the one hand, the possibility of Benggang in different regions was predicted through assessment of susceptibility, with differentiated prevention and protection measures to effectively prevent or reduce the occurrence of new Benggang in general. On the other hand, the level of risks and priority of prevention are specified through the assessment,so as to effectively address the hazard specifically step by step.Approaches shall be taken according to local conditions and level of hazard,in order to reduce its intensity and harmfulness,or even use it as a resource.
