Practice and reflection on the full connectivity and water supplement of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal

Abstract：The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is a precious heritage of water resources and culture.Since 2022,the Ministry of Water Resources has launched a water supply campaign for the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.In view of the serious overloading of water resources development and utilization in the basin,the damage of ecological functions of river channels,and the overexploitation of groundwater along the river,measures such as multi-water source fine scheduling,river spatial pattern improvement,and strengthening water quality protection,water source replacement and groundwater recharge have been taken.The water resource condition of the canal system has been significantly improved.Introduces the practice of water replenishment through the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal,and reviews the results achieved through water replenishment from the aspects of river ecological environment recovery,displacement of pressure mining deep confined water,infiltration and replenishment of shallow groundwater,and promoting the protection,inheritance and utilization of the Grand Canal culture.Suggestions on water source security,systematic governance and intelligent management and control are put forward.
