Mechanisms and approaches for development and trading of soil and water conservation carbon sink projects

Abstract：Carbon sink of soil and water conservation has a feature of negative carbon technology,which has been widely adopted by the government and trading entities in China.It shall be widely applied in carbon emission trading market in the future.With summary of practical exploration of carbon sink development and trading of the first soil and water conservation project in China,measures should be taken from four aspects:establishing a project development team,implementing carbon sink monitoring and accounting,coordinating transactions and trading,and prompting demonstrations.Mechanisms and approaches are proposed for the development and trading of soil and water conservation carbon sink projects,including strengthening basic research and technology breakthrough,improving monitoring and accounting system.It is necessary to boost carbon sink project development and explore carbon sink trading channel and mechanism,establish a voluntary greenhouse gas emission reduction trading system for soil and water conservation carbon sink,build up teams and institutions,and project information management system.
