Chinese Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Chronic Prostatitis
Abstract:Chronic prostatitis is one of the common diseases in urology and male health. The reported prevalence rate in China is 6% to 32.9%. Most cases of chronic prostatitis present a chronic course, characterized by slow onset, recurrent episodes, complex conditions, diverse symptoms, and prolonged duration. Although it does not threaten life, it significantly affects patients' physical and mental health and quality of life. The 'Chinese Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Chronic Prostatitis' was supported by the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was led by Professor Li Yueqing, who organized renowned clinical experts in urology and andrology, methodologists, and pharmacologists from across the country. Based on research results of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment for chronic prostatitis both domestically and internationally, it drew on the principles and methods of evidence-based medicine guidelines. It screened and evaluated existing literature, established an evidence grading system according to international standards for assessment, development, and evaluation, and formed a set of diagnosis and treatment guidelines for chronic prostatitis with evidence levels and recommendations after expert review. These guidelines provide diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations primarily based on traditional Chinese medicine for the clinical management of chronic prostatitis.
