Expert Consensus on the Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis in Patients with Non-Metastatic Prostate Cancer Receiving Androgen Deprivation Therapy
Abstract:During androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for non-metastatic prostate cancer, patients often experience reduced bone mineral density (BMD), abnormal bone metabolism, which significantly increases the risk of osteoporosis and fragility fractures, affecting patients' quality of life and prognosis. Currently, there is insufficient attention to bone health management in clinical practice, and there is a lack of unified standards, urgently requiring the development of systematic guidance. This consensus proposes strategies for bone health risk assessment, monitoring of BMD and bone turnover markers, fracture risk stratification, lifestyle interventions, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, and the use of bone-modifying agents (such as denosumab and bisphosphonates), and clarifies the timing of intervention and treatment follow-up recommendations, aiming to guide clinical prevention and management of osteoporosis in these patients, thereby improving their bone health and overall prognosis.
