Exploration of the Application of Insect Medicines in Erectile Dysfunction Based on the Theory of 'Luo Yi Tong Wei Yong'
Abstract:Erectile dysfunction (ED) refers to a condition where a man has difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. According to its clinical manifestations, ancient and modern medical experts classify it under the categories of 'Yang Wei', 'Yin Qi Bu Yong', and 'Jin Wei'. Insect medicines, with their ability to penetrate deeply and expel pathogenic factors from the meridians, as well as their effects of promoting blood circulation, resolving stasis, clearing heat, removing dampness, regulating qi, eliminating phlegm, and nourishing the body, play an important role in the treatment of ED. Based on the theory of 'Luo Yi Tong Wei Yong', this article proposes that the core pathogenesis of ED is 'meridian blockage leading to dysfunction of the genital organs'. It suggests that the treatment should fully utilize the functions of insect medicines in activating blood circulation, resolving stasis, unblocking meridians, clearing heat and dampness, regulating qi, eliminating phlegm, and nourishing the body. It also summarizes the modern pharmacological mechanisms and clinical application principles of these drugs, aiming to provide new insights into the use of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of ED.
