Consensus on Standardized Treatment of Male Infertility Caused by Y Chromosome Microdeletion
Abstract:Y chromosome microdeletion, as the second most common genetic cause of male infertility after Klinefelter syndrome, plays a crucial role in clinical treatment decisions. The clinical phenotypes vary depending on the type of Y chromosome microdeletion, and treatment strategies differ significantly. In recent years, with increasingly in-depth research on the mechanisms of Y chromosome microdeletion, our understanding of complete and partial deletion patterns in the AZF region of the long arm of the Y chromosome has become more profound. Different deletion patterns may lead to changes in the copy number of important genes within the AZF region, thereby affecting the process of spermatogenesis to varying degrees. Deletion of the AZFc region is the most common Y chromosome microdeletion, with diverse clinical phenotypes, presenting both opportunities and challenges in endocrine therapy, fertility preservation, micro-TESE, and genetic counseling. In light of this, this consensus provides an updated summary of standardized treatment for male infertility caused by Y chromosome microdeletion, aiming to better serve urology and reproductive medicine clinics, and improve the clinical diagnostic and therapeutic level for patients with male infertility.
