Study of the Changes of Endothelin and Thromboxane in Varicocele
Abstract:Objectives: To investigate the possible role which endothelin andthromboxane may play in the pathophysiology of varicocele. Methods: Endothelin and thromboxane in spermatic vein of 24 varicoceled male were detected by using radioimmunoassay with 18 inguinal oblique hernia patients as control. Results: Endothelin content in spermatic vein was (68.28±23.72)pg/ml,which was higher than that of control group 〔(49.41±18.18)pg/ml, P<0.05〕; TXB2 level 〔(176.83±43.67)pg/ml〕 was also higher than that of control group 〔(158.62±40.97)pg/ml, P<0.05〕. Conclusions: Levels of endothelin and thromboxane in spermatic vein of varicoceled patients were abnormal, indicating that they might be involved in the pathophysiology of varicocele.
