Should China Lower the Diagnostic Criteria for Hypertension?
Abstract:After the 2017 American Guidelines for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure lowered the diagnostic criteria for hypertension to ≥130/80 mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa), there was widespread attention and debate globally. In August 2025, the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, along with several other academic institutions, updated and issued the 2025 Adult Hypertension Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management Guidelines [1].
