Research Progress on Oxidative Stress-Mediated Blood-Brain Barrier Dysfunction
Abstract:Oxidative stress refers to an imbalance state where oxidative action exceeds antioxidant action in the body, which exists in organs such as the lung, brain, and cardiovascular system, and can cause physiological and pathological changes in the body by affecting cellular molecular signaling pathways [1]. Reactive oxygen species are important factors causing oxidative stress in the body, including superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide, which can lead to lipid, protein, and DNA oxidation, thereby increasing the level of oxidative stress in tissue cells [2]. In addition, reactive nitrogen compounds such as free radicals can also increase the degree of oxidative stress. However, antioxidants such as glutathione can enhance antioxidant effects and protect tissue cells from oxidative stress damage [1].
