A Case of Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Guided by Multimodal Image Fusion Using Pulsed Field Ablation
Abstract:Ablation is the most effective treatment for atrial fibrillation. Pulsed field ablation (PFA), a new technology that has emerged in recent years, is a novel energy source different from 'heat' and 'cold'. PFA causes irreversible electroporation of cells through high-intensity electric fields applied for a very short time, leading to myocardial injury at the ablation target. Due to its myocardial selectivity and minimal impact on other tissues, PFA can avoid complications such as esophageal, neural, and vascular injuries that may occur with traditional radiofrequency ablation. Additionally, PFA significantly reduces ablation time, offering high efficiency and safety. However, current PFA procedures often require multiple fluoroscopies and angiographies to assess electrode contact. To further enhance the safety and visibility of the procedure, our hospital conducted the first case of PFA for atrial fibrillation guided by multimodal image fusion.
