Research Progress on Diffusion Tensor Imaging of White Matter in Patients with Cerebral Infarction and Gait Disorders
Abstract:Cerebral infarction is one of the most disabling brain diseases globally. Patients often develop long-term gait disorders, which significantly affect their quality of life. Gait disorders include various clinical symptoms such as slowed walking speed and asymmetric gait. The progression and outcome of these disorders are closely related to brain structural damage and neural plasticity after onset. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), based on magnetic resonance imaging, is currently recognized as a non-invasive, in vivo, and visualized imaging technique for white matter fiber tracts. It can quantitatively monitor dynamic changes in white matter microstructure under physiological and pathological conditions, providing a powerful method for non-invasive investigation of white matter injury and reconstruction after cerebral infarction. It has been preliminarily applied in clinical research on various neurological and psychiatric diseases. This review aims to discuss the research progress of DTI in evaluating white matter injury and reconstruction in patients with cerebral infarction and gait disorders.
