Research Progress on the Mechanism of Cerebral Peptides in Vascular Cognitive Impairment
Abstract:Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) refers to cognitive dysfunction primarily caused by cerebrovascular disease and its risk factors, and it is classified into vascular mild cognitive impairment and vascular dementia (VaD) according to clinical severity. With the increasingly severe aging trend in China, the proportion of people aged 60 and above continues to rise, and the number of dementia patients has also shown a significant increase. The prevalence rate of dementia among people aged 60 and above in China is 6%, with VaD accounting for 1.6%, making it the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD). It often coexists with AD [1]. Decline in cognitive function, especially in attention, information processing, and executive function, has become a heavy burden for individuals, families, and healthcare systems.
