The Role of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide in Cardiovascular Diseases
Abstract:The cardiovascular system plays a crucial role in normal metabolism in the human body. Common cardiovascular diseases (cardiovascular diseases, CVD) include heart failure, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, and myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury [1]. Although treatment options for CVD have improved over the past few decades, CVD remains the leading cause of death worldwide. According to data from the World Economic Forum, CVD causes more than 50% of deaths from non-communicable diseases, and it is estimated that by 2030, CVD will cause more than 22.2 million deaths [2]. In China, the incidence and mortality rate of CVD are the highest, with cardiovascular disease-related deaths accounting for 46.74% and 44.26% of total causes of death in rural and urban areas, respectively, in 2019 [3].
