Research Progress on the Interaction between Fibroblasts and Macrophages in Myocardial Fibrosis
Abstract:It is well known that myocardial fibrosis can damage cardiomyocytes, leading to arrhythmia and other adverse outcomes. It is a pathological process of adverse development of various cardiovascular diseases, especially as a core pathological change driving adverse cardiac remodeling in heart failure. Myocardial fibrosis mainly involves increased synthesis of extracellular matrix (ECM) and fibrous tissue, as well as the secretion of pro-fibrotic mediators by immune cells, i.e., an increase in type I and III collagen fibers in the myocardial interstitium and an increase in alpha-smooth muscle actin expression by myofibroblasts [1].
