Association between serum thiosulfate sulfurtransferase-like domain containing 2 (TSTD2) antibody and essential hypertension and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in elderly patients
Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum thiosulfate sulfurtransferase-like domain containing 2 (TSTD2) antibody and essential hypertension (EH) and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis (subAS) in individuals aged ≥60 years. Methods A total of 890 patients aged ≥60 years admitted to the Department of Hypertension, Qinghai Provincial Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital, from January 2020 to December 2022 were selected. According to whether they were diagnosed with EH, they were divided into an EH group (n=384) and a control group (n=506). Among the EH patients, those with subAS were further classified into a subAS group (n=122) and a non-subAS group (n=262) based on neck artery ultrasound results. Serum TSTD2 antibody levels were measured using homogeneous enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the association between serum TSTD2 antibody levels and EH and subAS was analyzed. Results The serum TSTD2 antibody level in the EH group was significantly higher than that in the control group [4315.50 (1414.50, 8782.00) AU vs 2106.50 (666.25, 5934.00) AU, P < 0.01]. The serum TSTD2 antibody level in the subAS group was significantly higher than that in the non-subAS group [8051.0 (5004.75, 11998.25) AU vs 2660.0 (1078.75, 6682.50) AU, P < 0.01]. ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve for serum TSTD2 antibody levels predicting subAS in EH patients was 0.799. Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that age and coronary artery calcium score were independent factors influencing serum TSTD2 antibody levels (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). After adjusting for multiple risk factors, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that high serum TSTD2 antibody levels were an independent risk factor for subAS in EH patients (OR = 15.070, 95% CI: 7.161–31.712, P = 0.000). Conclusion Elevated serum TSTD2 antibody levels are associated with an increased risk of subAS in elderly patients with EH, and may be a promising new biomarker.
