Association between serum non-HDL-C level and carotid atherosclerosis
Abstract:Objective To study the association between serum non-HDL-C level and carotid atherosclerosis (CAS).Methods The clinical data of 1209 patients with their age>60 years admitted to our hospital for physical examination were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into mild CAS group (n=613) and moderate-severe CAS group (n=596).Their clinical data (sex, age, hypertension,DM and cigaret smoking) were recorded, their serum HDL-C and LDL-C levels were measured and analyzed. Results The age was significantly older, the number of famels and cigaret smokers was significantly greater, the incidence of hypertension and DM and the serum non-HDL-C level were significantly higher in moderate-severe CAS group than in mild CAS group (P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum non-HDL-C level and DM were the independent risk factors for CAS.Conclusion The serum non-HDL-C level is positively associated with CAS and is thus an independent risk factor for CAS.
