Role of inflammation in progressive abdominal aortic aneurysm in rabbits based on 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between progressive AAA and inflammation in rabbits according to their 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging. Methods An infrarenal AAA model of rabbits was established by intracavity elastase perfusion.Ten rabbits were killed at weeks 2 and 4 respectively after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning.Ear venous blood samples were taken for detecting the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9,artery tissue samples were taken for calculating the average standard uptake value,SUV and standard TBR with pathological and immunohistochemical staining. Results The maximal growth rate of aneurysm diameter was 89.21%±0.02% higher at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than before ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning and was 5.80%±0.01% higher at week 4 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning. The expression levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were significantly higher at week 4 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning (P<0.05) and were significantly lower at week 4 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning (P<0.05).The SUVmax was significantly lower at week 4 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning (P<0.05).The rate of stained macrophage area was significantly higher at week 2 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning than at week 4 after ultrasonography and PET/CT scanning (P<0.05).Conclusion Inflammation plays an important role in early progressive AAA.
