Effect of piribedil on different subtypes of memory in early Parkinson's disease patients
Abstract:Objective To study the effect of piribedil on different subtypes of memory in early Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Methods Fifty three early PD patients admitted to our hospital from January 2014 to December 2016 served as a PD group and 53 healthy subjects undergoing physical examination served as a control group in this study.Patients in PD group were treated with piribedil acrodding to the Chinese PD treatment guidelines and their subtypes of memory were recorded before and 3 months after piribedil treatment. The scores of phonological verbal working memory, coordinate visuospatial working memory, categorical visuospatial working memory,event-based prospective memory (EBPM) and time-based prospective memory (TBPM) were compared between the two groups. Results The scores of phonological verbal working memory, coordinate visuospatial working memory, categorical visuospatial working memory,EBPM and TBPM were significantly lower in PD group than in control group before piribedil treatment (P< 0.05),and were significantly higher in PD group after piribedil treatment than before piribedil treatment (89.9±8.5 vs 81.6±7.8,86.1±7.2 vs 82.9±6.9,93.3±9.7 vs 89.7±9.3,5.0±1.7 vs 3.5 ± 1.9,P<0.05).Conclusion Piribedil can improve the phonological verbal working memory, coordinate visuospatial working memory, categorical visuospatial working memory,EBPM and TBPM in PD patients.
