Expression of circulating hsa-miR-199a-5p and its significance in ischemic stroke patients
Abstract:Objective To study the expression of circulating hsa-miR-199a-5p and its clinical significance in ischemic stroke (IS) patients. Methods Sixty-eight IS patients admitted to our hospital from January 2011 to May 2015 served as an IS group and 40 subjects undergoing physical examination served as a control group in this study. The expression of hsa-miR-199a-5p in IS patients was detected by RT-PCR.The sensitivity and specificity of hsa-miR-199a-5p in diagnosis of IS were assessed according to the ROC curve. The relationship of hsa-miR-199a-5p expression with NIHSS score and serum CRP level was analyzed. Results The hsa-miR-199a-5p expression level was significantly higher in IS group than in control group (P<0.01).No significant difference was found in hsa-miR-199a-5p and NIHSS score between the two groups (r=0.490,P>0.05).The hsa-miR-199a-5p expression level was positively related with the serum CRP level (r =0.765,P<0.01).The sensitivity and specificity of hsa-miR-199a-5p for the diagnosis of IS were 95.4% and 94.7% respectively according to the ROC curve with 2.32 as its threshold value. The positive and negative likelihood ratio was 27.17 and 0.022 respectively, the area under the ROC curve was 0.805 (95%CI=0.609-0.927,P=0.003).Conclusion The elevated hsa-miR-199a-5p expression level in acute IS patients can be used as a biomarker for the early diagnosis of IS.
