Effect of salivation on quality of life in PD patients
Abstract:Objective To study the effect of salivation on quality of life in PD patients. Methods One hundred and eighty-six PD patients were divided into salivation group (n=133) and saliva tion-free group (n=53).The patients were scored according to the UPDRS score and H-Y stag-ing.The quality of life in PD patients was assessed according to the PDQ-39,HAMD-24,HAMA-14 and MMSE scores. The salivation was assessed according to the SCS-PD score. The effect of salivation on quality of life in PD patients was analyzed. Results The incidence of salivation was significantly higher in male PD patients than in female PD patients (78.8% vs 58.8%,P<0.01).The male/female ratio and the UPDRS Ⅰ,UPDRS Ⅱ,HAMD-24 and PDQ-39 scores were significantly higher in salivation group than in salivation-free group (P<0.05,P<0.01).Pearson corre lation analysis showed that the SCS-PD score was positively related with the PD course and the HAMD-24,UPDRS Ⅰ,UPDRS Ⅱ,PDQ-39 scores and negatively related with the education years (P<0.05,P<0.01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the PDQ-39 score was related with the UPDRS Ⅲ,H-Y staging,PD course,SCS-PD,UPDRS Ⅱ,HAMD-24 scores and age by descending order (P<0.05,P<0.01).Conclusion The incidence of salivation is higher in male PD patients than in female PD patients.Salivation can significantly affect the quality of life in PD patients.
