Relationship between serum ox-LDL level and accessory Th17/Treg axis in elderly ischemic stroke patients
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between serum ox-LDL level and accessory Th17/Treg axis in elderly ischemic stroke patients. Methods One hundred and forty-one elderly ische mic stroke patients were divided into initial ischemic stroke group (n=79) and recurrent ischemic stroke group (n=62),with 76 ischemic stroke-free elderly subjects served as a control group.Their serum levels of ox-LDL,peripheral Th17 and Treg were measured, and expressions of IL-17,IL-6,IL-10,IL-23,and TNF-α were detected. Results The expression levels of ox-LDL,IL-17,and TNF-α were significantly higher while those of Treg mRNA,Foxp3 mRNA,and IL-10 were significantly lower in initial ischemic stroke group than in control group (P<0.05).The expression levels of ox-LDL,Th17,Th17/Treg,and IL-17 were significantly higher while those of Treg were significantly lower in recurrent ischemic stroke group than in initial ischemic stroke group (P<0.05).ox LDL was positively related with Th17,Th17/Treg,RORγt mRNA,IL-17,IL-6,IL-23 and TNF-α,and negatively related with Treg,Foxp3 mRNA and IL-10 (r=0.482,r=0.528,r=0.419,r=0.439,r=0.233,r=0.262,r=0.459,P<0.05;r=-0.466,r=-0.478,r=-0.406,P<0.05),indicating that ox-LDL is an independent risk factor for Th17/Treg axis (P< 0.01).Conclusion Elevated serum ox-LDL level is an important risk factor for the imbalance of Th17/Treg axis function in elderly ischemic stroke patients.
