Risk factors for periventricular hyperintensity in patients with large artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke
Abstract:Objective To study the risk factors for periventricular hyperintensity (PVH) in patients with large artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke by analyzing its incidence. Methods Two hundred and seventy-three patients with large artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke were divided into PVH-free group (n=102),mild PVH group (n=100) and severe PVH group (n=71).Their rick factors for vascular diseases, location of large artery stenosis, lesion of bilateral artery, and type of ischemic stroke were compared. Results The sex, age, and history of hypertension and ischemic stroke differed greatly in 3 groups (P<0.05,P<0.01).Age and hypertension were the independent risk factors for PVH (OR=1.112,OR=2.992,P=0.000) and were positively related with PVH.The longer the disease course was,the severer the PVH was in 45-64 years old patients. Conclusion The location of intracranial/extracranial stenosis is not a risk facor for PVH.Vascular rick factors play a major role in the development and progression of PVH in patients with large artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke.
