Relationship between coronary atherosclerotic plaque characterics and carotid plaques in stable angina pectoris patients
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between coronary atherosclerotic plaque characterics and carotid plaques in stable angina pectoris patients. Methods Two hundred and forty-two patients who underwent coronary angiography and PCI in our hospital were divided into thin cap fibroatherosclerotic plaque (TCFAP) group (n=113),thick cap fibroatherosclerotic plaque (ThCFAP) group (n=90),and pathological intimal thickening (PIT) group (n=39).Their risk factors for stable angina pectoris were analyzed. Results The incidence of coronary atherosclerotic plaques was 46.69 %,37.19% and 16,12 % respectively in TCFAP group,ThCFAP group and PIT group. The incidence of diabetes mellitus and cerebrovascular events, and the proportion of high density calcified area and minimal lumen area ≤4.0 mm2 were significantly higher in TCFAP group than in ThCFAP group and PIT group (30.09% vs 26.67% and 12.82%,16.81% vs 6.67% and 5.13%,11.3%±8.4% vs 3.4%±3.3% and 1.3%±1.0%,17.7% vs 7.8% and 15.4%,P< 0.05,P<0.01).The incidence of bilateral carotid plaques was significantly higher in TCFAP group than in ThCFAP group and PIT group (38.1% vs 25.6% and 18.0%,P<0.01).Conclusion Coronary atherosclerotic plaques in stable angina pectoris patients are characterized by TCFAP with a high incidence of high density calcified coronary plaques, bilateral carotid plaques and cerebrovascular events.
