Relationship between ascending aorta elasticity and target organ damage in primary hypertension patients
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between ascending aorta elasticity and target organ damage (TOD) in primary hypertension patients. Methods 192 primary hypertension patients were divided into group A (n=51) with 0 TOD,group B (n=73) with 1 TOD,group C (n=48) with 2 TOD,and group D (n=20) with 3 TOD.Their coronary CT data were retrospectively analyzed. The ascending aorta elasticity was assessed according to the aortic distensibility (AD),aortic compliance (AC) and aortic stiffness (ASI).Results The AD,AC,standard minimal diameter, standard minimal area and baPWV differed greatly in the 4 groups (P<0.05,P<0.01).The AD,AC,ASI and baPWV were significantly higher in group A than in group B (3.1±1.2 10-3/ mm Hg vs 1.7±0.8 10-3/mm Hg,2.2±0.6 mm2/mm Hg vs 1.4±0.7 mm2/mm Hg,6.8±2.6 vs 13.7±7.2,1404.0±123.0 cm/s vs 1638.0±307.0 cm/s,P<0.001).The AD and AC were significantly different between groups B and C (P < 0.01).The ASI differed greatly between groups C and D (P<0.01).No significant difference was found in the standard Ds and Ss between groups A and B,between groups B and C (P<0.05).The severity of TOD increased with the decreasing AD tertile. The odds ratio of TOD was 7.2-fold higher in the second tertile group than in the first tertile group and was 9.8-fold higher in the third tertile group than in the second terile group. Conclusion AD is more sensitive than AC,ASI,traditional baPWV and morphology in predicting subclinical TOD in primary hypertensive patients.
