Risk factors for ischemic stroke patients with white matter ischemic lesion
Abstract:Objective To study the risk factors for ischemic stroke patients with white matter ischemic lesion (WMIL).Methods Eighty-five ischemic stroke patients were divided into WMIL group (n=40) and IS group (n=45).The patients in two groups were scored according to the Essen stroke risk score (ESRS).Their serum uric acid (UA),alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and homocysteine (Hcy) levels were measured. Results The ESRS score and serum ALP level were significantly higher whereas the serum UA level was significantly lower in WMIL group than in IS group (4.68±1.16 vs 3.69±1.78,P<0.01;59.50±18.48 U/L vs 53.56±13.81 U/L,P<0.05;265.58±77.91 μmol/L vs 306.40± 66.68 μmol/L,P<0.01).Hcy level No significant difference was found in the Hcy level between WMIL group and IS group (P>0.05).Conclusion The higher the ESRS score is,the higher the risk of WMIL is.The decreased serum UA level and elevated serum ALP level are the risk factors for WMIL in ischemic stroke patients.
