Relationship between waist/hip ratio and hyperuricemia in very old patients
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between waist/hip ratio and hyperuricemia in very old patients. Methods Five hundred and eighty very old patients were divided into hyperuricemia group (n=390) and control group (n=190).Fasting blood uric acid, blood biochemical indicators, hepatic and renal function, serum lipid and fasting blood glucose, waist and hip circumference were measured. The relationship between waist circumference and hip circumference was analyzed by Spearman correlation analysis and the risk factors for hyperuricemia were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results The waist circumference and hip circumference were significantly longer, the waist/hip ratio and uric acid level were significantly higher in hyperuricemia group than in control group (98.03±9.94 cm vs 85.47±10.37 cm,P=0.026;100.12±7.88 cm vs 90.09±8.62 cm,P=0.019;0.98±0.05 vs 0.88±0.55,P=0.038;427.67±106.04 μmol/L vs 362.71±82.99 μmol/L,P =0.002).Spearman correlation analysis showed that waist, hip body mass index and waist/hip ratio was positively related with uric acid level (P<0.01).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that waist/hip ratio was a risk factor for hyperuricemia in very old patients (OR=1.90,95%CI:1.56-3.62,P<0.05).Conclusion Waist/hip ratio is positively related with uric acid level in very old patients.
