Relationship between serum free fatty acid level and carotid artery stenosis in patients at high risk of ischemic stroke
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between serum free fatty acid (FFA) level and carotid artery stenosis (CAS) in patients at high risk of ischemic stroke (IS).Methods Five hundred and thirty patients at high risk of IS (211 males and 319 females) aged 71.29±7.02 years were divided into first quantile group (n=177),second quantile group (n=177) and third quantile group (n=176) according to their serum FFA level.Their CAS was detected by color Doppler ultrasonography. Results Logistic regression analysis showed that FFA was an independent risk factor for CAS in IS patients (OR=1.003,95% CI..1.001-1.005,P=0.001).The BMI,blood pressure, serum blood glucose,TG and LDL levels were abnormal in three groups. The incidence of CAS was significantly higher in second quantile group and third quantile group than in first quantile group after adjustment of LDL.Conclusion CAS is closely related with serum FFA level in papteints at high risk of IS.Elevated serum FFA,blood glucose, and blood lipid levels are the risk factors for CAS.
