Correlation between dosage and antiplatelet effect of aspirin in elderly population
Abstract:Objective To study whether the antiplatelet effect of aspirin is dependent on its dosage . Methods Five hundred and thirty elderly patients in Beijing admitted to our hospital from April 2008 to June 2010 were divided into control group (n=40) ,25 -50 mg aspirin treatment group (n=24) ,and 75-100 mg aspirin treatment group (n=446) .Their platelets were detected by AA‐induced phototurbimetry .High platelet reactivity (HPR) was defined when the platelet aggrega‐tion was ≥20% .The sex ,age ,BMI ,smoking ,alcohol comsuption ,history of diseases ,and use of anti‐cardiovascular disease drugs were analyzed by PSM .Results The HPR was 72 .50% , 37.50% and 13 .73% respectively in control group ,25 -50 mg aspirin treatment group and 75 -100 mg aspirin treatment group (χ2 =87 .25 ,P<0 .01) .PSM showed full matching in 51 patients (17 in each group) and a HPR of 82 .35% ,47 .06% and 11 .76% in the 3 groups (χ2 =17 .00 ,P<0.01) .Conclusion The antiplatelet effect of aspirin is dependent on its dosage (0 -100 mg) and aspirin cannot exert its antiplatelet effect w hen its oral dosage is ≤50 mg .
