Association between images of intracranial artery calcification and lacunar ischemic stroke
Abstract:Objective To study the association between images of intracranial artery calcification (IAC)and lacunar ischemic stroke .Methods One hundred and twenty‐five patients with lacunar ischemic stroke diagnosed by CT ,CTA or MRI were divided into non‐IAC group (n=21) ,mild IAC group (n=72) and severe IAC group (n=32) according to their total IAC score .The inci‐dence and distribution of IAC were analyzed .Sixty patients with their MRI data available were di‐vided into group I and group Ⅱaccording to the number of ischemic strokes .The association be‐tween IAC score and the number of lacunar ischemic strokes was analyzed .Results The patients in non‐IAC group ,mild IAC group and severe IAC group accounted for 16 .8% ,57 .6% and 25.6% ,respectively .CTA showed that the incidence of IAC was the highest in internal carotid ar‐tery .Logistic regression analysis revealed that diabetes mellitus and age were the independent risk factors for IAC (OR=2 .321 ,95% CI:1 .050 -5 .129 ,P= 0 .037 ;OR= 1 .052 ,95% CI:1 .014 -1.092 ,P=0 .007) .The IAC score was higher in group Ⅱthan in group I (2 .3 ± 1 .5 vs 1 .2 ± 1 .1 , P=0 .004) .Conclusion The incidence of IAC is high in patients with lacunar ischemic stroke . Diabetes mellitus and age are closely associated with IAC .The severity of IAC can thus provide reference for the occurence and clinical outcomes of lacunar ischemic stroke .
