Association between serum IL-6 level and nerve function score in AIS patients and effect of β-aescinum natrium on AIS
Abstract:Objective To study the association between serum IL-6 level and nerve function score and the effect of β-aescinum natrium on AIS by observing their dynamic changes in AIS patients . Methods Sixty-three AIS patients were randomly divided into control group (n=30) and treat-ment group (n=33) .Patients in control group received routine treatment and those in treatment group underwent combined routine and β-aescinum natrium treatment .Their serum IL-6 level was measured on days 1 ,5 and 14 after ischemic stroke and their nerve function was scored at the cor-responding time points .Thirty healthy subjects undergoing physical examination served as a nor-mal group and their serum IL-6 level was measured at morning .Results The serum IL-6 level was significantly higher in treatment group and control group than in normal group on days 1 ,5 and 14 after ischemic stroke ,and significantly lower in treatment group than in control group on day 14 after ischemic stroke (13 .33 ± 2 .82 ng/L vs 15 .25 ± 4 .65 ng/L ,P<0 .05) .The NIHSS score of nerve function was higher in treatment group and control group on day 14 than on days 1 and 5 after ischemic stroke (P<0 .01) ,and significantly lower in treatment group than in control group on day 14 after ischemic stroke (9 .03 ± 2 .28 vs 10 .38 ± 2 .30 ,P<0 .05) .The serum IL-6 level was positively related with the NIHSS score of nerve function in AIS patients (r=0 .888 , P<0 .01) .Conclusion The serum IL-6 level is closely associated with the nerve function score andβ-aescinum improves the nerve function by reducing the serum IL-6 level in AIS patients .
