Abstract:In the contemporary era,as fixed dental restoration becomes increasingly prevalent, removable partial dentures(RPD)continue to occupy an indispensable role in the management of partially edentulous arches among elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions, owing to their advantages including minimal invasiveness,cost-effectiveness,and broad indications. However,in the face of elderly and frail patients, wearing of RPD not only changes the ecological balance of the local oral microenvironment, triggers denture stomatitis, caries of the remaining teeth and periodontitis, but may also have an impact on systemic health through microbial-host interactions. This paper discusses the potential impact of changes in oral bacterial structure and function after RPD wearing and the potential impact of related microbial ecological changes on systemic diseases, and discusses the cutting-edge progress such as surface modification, digital design and production of RPD materials, aiming to provide ideas for the application of removable denture materials, solution design and process improvement.
