Abstract:Periodontitis is an inflammatory and destructive disease that occurs in the periodontal supporting tissues and is caused by periodontal pathogenic bacteria. Its pathogenesis and systemic implications have long been a focus of academic research.Emerging studies have shown that periodontitis is closely related to the occurrence and development of various chronic liver diseases.Periodontal pathogens and their virulence factors may translocate to the liver, triggering immune-inflammatory responses and metabolic disturbances, ultimately leading to hepatic fibrosis and impaired liver function. As the disease progresses,it may evolve into chronic liver conditions such as alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis.Additionally, the oral-gut-liver axis has been increasingly recognized as playing a crucial role in this process.Based on these findings, the current review focuses on the correlations and pathophysiological links between periodontitis and various chronic liver diseases, and summarizes the relevant epidemiological and clinical research results. At the same time,it explores the pathways and mechanisms through which periodontitis affects liver function from two aspects:the influence on liver function and the underlying mechanisms. This provides a reference for further research and aims to open up new perspectives for the prevention and treatment of chronic liver diseases from the perspective of oral medicine.
